FACES OF OUR FOOD
20 etchings on 9×11” styrofoam trays, 2025
ARTIST STATEMENT
In 2024, Canada slaughtered 863 million land animals. On average, each Canadian consumes about 20 chickens per year.
To represent this, I created 20 etched portraits of chickens, each one drawn from a different reference image to honour them as individuals with distinct personalities. Etching allows the images to remain nearly invisible from a distance, only revealing themselves when the viewer moves closer. Depending on the angle and lighting, the lines appear and disappear, creating a ghost‑like presence that echoes the animals’ absence.
